Questions, answered plainly
If your question is not here, write to us, a specific question gets a specific answer.
Is this suitable for coffee beginners?
Yes. You do not need professional experience, you need curiosity and a willingness to taste carefully. Technical details are explained in plain language rather than diluted, and groups are small enough that no question goes unanswered.
Is this a farm tour?
No. The farm visit is one movement of a larger structure. The experience follows one selected lot from a specialty cup in Bogotá to its producer, and then into a roast-development session where the group creates its own profile. The farm changes with the lot; the standard does not.
Which farm will we visit?
Each departure features a specific producer and lot, announced on the departure page once the lot and permissions are confirmed. We select working farms for coffee quality and learning value, normally within about 2–2.5 hours of Bogotá.
Is the featured coffee really the same lot used on Day 2?
Yes, literally. The same green lot cupped at origin is delivered to the roastery in advance, analyzed, pre-roasted into reference profiles, and used for the live roasts. That continuity is the entire point of the experience.
Do we roast coffee ourselves?
Yes, collaboratively. Juan develops the professional reference; the group then agrees on a sensory goal and builds its own profile under his supervision, with every guest holding an active role. You cup the results blind and decide what you would revise.
Why does the immersion take two days?
One day would either rush the farm or reduce roasting to a demonstration. Two days creates a clean structure: Day 1 to understand the lot at origin, Day 2 to interpret it through roasting, with a night in your own Bogotá hotel in between. If you'd rather start smaller, each day is also offered on its own.
Can I do just the farm day, or just the roasting day?
Yes. Origin Day is the farm experience on its own, and Roast Day is a full day inside the roastery with Juan, opened with a morning specialty-café walk. Same standard, same small groups. What only the two-day immersion offers is continuity: roasting the exact lot you met at the farm the day before.
How often does Roast Day run?
Once a week, on a fixed day, because the roastery session is built around Juan's calendar and shares its six seats with that week's immersion group. That's also why Roast Day seats are the scarcest, book early.
Do we sleep at the farm?
No. We return to Bogotá at the end of Day 1. Go deep without giving up your Bogotá hotel.
Where do we meet in Bogotá?
Day 1 begins at a selected specialty café in Bogotá, the exact pin is sent 24 hours before departure along with your host's photo and WhatsApp contact. Day 2 meeting details are shared at the end of Day 1.
Is transportation included?
Day 1 includes round-trip private transportation between the Bogotá meeting point and the farm. Airport transfers, hotel pickup, and transportation to the Day 2 meeting point are not included.
How physically demanding is the farm visit?
Moderate. Expect uneven ground and possibly stairs or slopes. If you have mobility or accessibility questions, contact us before booking, we will answer honestly about what the specific farm involves.
What happens if it rains?
Farms work in the rain, and so do we, we carry ponchos and adjust the sequence. If road conditions ever make travel unsafe, we reschedule or refund per the cancellation policy.
Which meals are included?
Lunch on both days, at the farm with the producer on Day 1, and with Juan on Day 2: plus every featured coffee, brew, tasting, and cupping across the two days.
Can dietary restrictions be accommodated?
Most, yes, with notice. The booking form asks about dietary needs and allergies, and we confirm arrangements with the farm kitchen and Day 2 lunch ahead of your departure.
Is the experience offered in English and Spanish?
Yes. Departures run in English, Spanish, or bilingually, each date lists its language. Hosting and interpretation are scheduled accordingly.
Can children attend?
The recommended minimum age is 16 for public departures, and 12 for private groups with prior approval. (Final policy pending confirmation, ask us about your group.)
Can I bring roasted or green coffee home internationally?
Roasted coffee for personal use is broadly allowed in most countries, including the US and EU. Green (unroasted) coffee is restricted in some destinations. Check your own country's customs rules; we label all samples clearly to make declarations easy.
What is the cancellation policy?
The full policy is published on the terms page and linked before you confirm any booking. In short: free cancellation well in advance, partial refunds closer to the date, and full refund or rebooking if we cancel a departure. (Final terms pending local legal review.)
What happens if the minimum group is not reached?
Public departures run with a minimum of four guests. If a departure does not reach its minimum, we offer you a transfer to another date or a full refund, always communicated before the booking deadline passes.
Can professionals book a more technical version?
Yes. Private departures can shift emphasis toward sourcing, fermentation, green analysis, roasting, or hospitality. Multi-farm professional expeditions are on pause while we confirm additional farm partners; write to us directly if that is what you need and we will follow up once it is ready.
Can I book a private departure?
Yes, for one to six guests, from US$2,900 for up to four guests plus US$500 per additional guest. Tell us your dates, group, and objectives through the private page and we will design around them.
